Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) is a multi-program laboratory managed and operated by Sandia Corporation (Sandia), a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The DOE/NNSA, Sandia Field Office administers contract DE-AC04-94AL85000 and oversees contractor operations at the site. SNL is located within the boundary of Kirtland Air Force Base, immediately southeast of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
On December 22, 2014, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the National Discharge Elimination System Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit for the Middle Rio Grande Watershed, listing DOE and Sandia as Class C-eligible permittees. DOE and Sandia filed Notices of Intent (NOls) for permit coverage on June 17, 2015. DOE received approval from EPA on November 18, 2015 under Tracking Number NMR04A011 and Sandia received approval from EPA on December 22, 2015 under Tracking Number NMR04A012.
