Abstract

In this work on The American Revolution as it is Revealed in the Patriotic Plays of the Period, I shall deal directly with the plays which were written in behalf of the American cause. I shall present my material, not according to the order of appearance of the plays themselves, but rather according to the sequence of events of the Revolutionary Period, and only those events which are covered by the plays of the period will be discussed in detail. The study as a whole will not be based on a study of the plays as plays but rather as documents revealing specific trends, political beliefs, and historical events connected with the period.
