Crescimento populacional patológico, desmantelamento de todos os esforços a fim de prover infra-estrutura urbana, grande número de crianças abandonadas nas ruas, expansão das favelas, saturação dos sistemas de transporte, permanente poluição ambiental e a agravação de vários problemas sociais, estão entre os desafios que se deparam os governantes das maiores cidades brasileiras.
