Abstract
An analysis of the economic conditions in Deming, New Mexico. Deming's MainStreet district, as well as the greater Deming trade area is described. The authors assess the socioeconomic factors of the community and local market conditions; using location quotient analysis, they then present the area's economic strengths and weaknesses according to area pull factors. With low income and high unemployment and poverty rates, Deming is facing big challenges. But Deming also has assets (close proximity to transportation routes, for example); the authors recommend strategies for capitalizing on them. Illustrated with tables, charts, and maps.
