Abstract

This report defines high-technology manufacturing and evaluates its growth parameters, locational requirements, and expansion potential within New Mexico. Prepared by the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of New Mexico, the study tracks the state's comparative regional metrics, demonstrating that while New Mexico’s high-tech employment grows faster than the national average, it continues to lag behind neighboring states—thereby requiring targeted policy initiatives, technology spinoffs from national laboratories, and focused educational investments to remain competitive.
