Abstract

This report evaluates the socioeconomic impacts of proposed groundwater protection revisions to the New Mexico Liquid Waste Regulations, establishing a minimum lot size of .75 acres for on-site disposal systems. Prepared by the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of New Mexico, the study reveals that while the regulations will incur a one-time per-household land compliance cost between $200 and $14,000, the total economic benefits are nearly two times greater than the costs because they systematically avert the need for expensive community water and sewer infrastructure.
