Abstract

This report examines the macroeconomic and financial impact of proposed air quality particulate emission regulations on seven prominent potash production operations in southeastern New Mexico. Prepared by the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of New Mexico, the analysis establishes that compliance costs—ranging from $0.09 to $0.74 per capacity ton—will not cause local operators to suspend or reduce production due to robust global demand, a rising trend in real potash prices, and the backing of well-capitalized parent corporations.
