Abstract

This report details the significant macroeconomic footprint of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on New Mexico's economy during fiscal year 1984. Prepared by the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the University of New Mexico, the analysis establishes that DOE funding and operations—which primarily supported Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories—channeled $1.275 billion in direct expenditures into the state, generating $2.337 billion in total personal income and supporting approximately 76,700 total full-time-equivalent jobs (15.6% of the state's nonagricultural workforce).
