Abstract

This report examines the macro-level economic impact of expected changes in New Mexico's energy-mineral sectors, forecasting shifts in total gross output, employment, and state tax revenues from 1975 to 2000. Developed using a customized 50-sector input-output model, the study models the systemic, multi-industry economic contractions linked to projected oil and gas production declines, while detailing the corresponding growth offsets driven by expanding uranium mining, coal extraction, and proposed coal gasification projects.
