Abstract

This report assesses the FY 1978 New Mexico State Police Selective Traffic Enforcement Program across four patrol districts in New Mexico. Using before-and-after accident analyses, the study found little evidence that the program reduced accidents, alcohol-related crashes, or fatalities, and concluded that declining manpower levels likely limited the effectiveness of the enforcement effort.
