Abstract
Irrigation efficiency is the percent ratio of the amount of water applied to a field versus the amount of that water consumptively used by the crops on that field. Irrigation efficiency can be determined either by estimating the amount of water consumed by the crops, or the amount of water that is not consumed by the crops. Based on measured irrigation applications and reference evapotranspiration (ETo), the irrigation efficiency of Candelaria Farms Preserve, a representative farm serviced by the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District during the 2005 water year, was 52 percent.
