Abstract

This (ongoing) study examines the role of family members in cancer clinical trial decision-making among minority groups. It explores the patterns of family communication and involvement and out they both influence decision-making to (not)participate in CCT. Three four themes emerged from analyzing in-depth interviews of 23 family members: 1. Narrative construction of care; 2. Constrained treatment options and timeliness; 3. Significance of community outreaches; 4. Collective emotions. The study found diverse communication strategies that are deemed essential for cancer clinical trial recruiters to have for successful recruitment.
