Abstract
A study is made of the (t, p) reaction on targets of 90,92,94,96Zr and 122,124Sn. The purpose of the study is to investigate the nuclear energy levels that are populated by putting two neutrons into a target nucleus. The targets were bombarded with 20-MeV tritons from the Los Alamos tandem Van de Graaff facility. Protons were detected with solid-state counter telescope and the data was recorded with an online digital computer. Energy spectra were taken for each of the targets utilizing a magnetic spectrometer in order to obtain excitation energies with an accuracy of ± 10 keV. The zirconium data is analyzed with a distorted wave Born-approximation calculation and relative spectroscopic strengths are obtained. The energy level position and strengths are compared to a nuclear structure calculation.
