Abstract
An analytical method is presented for predicting, from first principles, the minimum heater temperature and heat transfer rate at the onset of film boiling for spherical and ·flat plate heaters in saturated and subcooled liquids. Within the analysis, consideration is given to the two types of film boiling, they are:
(1) Pool film boiling where the entire heater is submerged within the boiling liquid, and
(2) Leidenfrost film boiling where a droplet of liquid boil s above a horizontal plate heater.
