Life in Peñasco when he was young: agricultural work; changes after 1942: women drinking, men with long hair, women's clothing, religious teachings. He didn't go to school because he was shepherding goats and sheep, but learned to read and write 'Spanish [Mexicano] with his mother who was literate in both English and Spanish. He understands English. Schooling was strict [muy recio]. He is 72 years old (at the time of this interview). Talking about dating and marriage customs; cooking and making food preserves in the past, people used to live in a very simple way, houses did not have ceilings. Young people are not healthy nor strong now because they do not eat well. Mother used to make Tewa shoes.
