Wedding traditions [los casorios]: cinco a cuatro días de fiestas. Burial traditions and community support, historias/cuentos de antes to learn values such as solidarity and honesty, reading of poems, corridos, refranes. Conversation with a child about chores and ranch life. Talking about working and taking care of things. Conversation with Manuelita about food preparation, relationships with Native American groups and regional history of the mestizaje. Memories of her childhood in Truchas: games, chores in the ranch, fiestas, velorios [not funerals but vigils for saints in churches], the generosity of elders, los penitentes during the holy week, working in the wheat, chick peas, oats, and faba bean fields. Women made bread in mud ovens, farming practices, and well instilled working habits from her parents.
