Abstract
This; study traces the development of Robert Lowell's poetic mc1thod from Lord Weary' s Castle through Notebook 1968-69, exclusive of Lowell's translations. Through descriptive analysis, the study pays particular attention to Lowell's alteration of style as he proceeds from book to book, carrying with him the same general themes, but using a variety of voices which reflect his shifts in focus. A major portion of each chapter examines distinguishing stylistic devices that either remain constant in his poetry or undergo major modifications through his experiments with form and voice.
