Abstract
The great majority of the principals who work in junior high and middle schools have not experienced a professional preparation intended specifically for principals of these grades. It would seem reasonable that the principals for the junior high and middle schools should be prepared in programs specifically designed for principals of these grades, programs that are distinct and different from either the traditional elementary school or senior high school type of preparation. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the perceptions of junior high and middle school principals concerning what they felt to be important in the preparation of principals for junior high and middle schools, as well as desirable characteristics, attitudes, and competencies of such principals.
