Abstract

The Problem. Identifying and imposing order upon the critical elements affecting vocational selection has long been a concern of psychologists in general and counseling psychologists in particular. Recently, individuals within industry, education, and the professions are becoming increasingly interested in the phenomenon or career selection. Researchers investigating the area agree that an understanding of the relationship between childhood experiences and career selection is fundamental to the development of functional theories of vocational selection. This investigation was undertaken to gain information concerning this relationship.
