Radioactive tracers have been used extensively to investigate the behavior of substances at concentration too low to be detected by ordinary chemical or instrumental methods (1). Some elements exist only as short lived isotopes, and their chemistry is known only

in terms of their behavior at low concentrations, Other elements that have stable or long lived isotopes may be studied at low con­centrations by the use of suitable tracers, usually carrier-free radioisotopes when they are available,
