6. Primeira missa no Brasil (First Mass in Brazil), 1860. This painting by Vítor Meireles de Lima is a romanticized vision of the arrival of Christianity in Brazil and its introduction among the indigenous peoples of the country. Meireles was an accomplished academy-trained painter of large-scale romanticized historical subjects which were commissioned and well- received from mid-to late Nineteenth Century.
