Abstract

As President of the University, I have the honor to submit the report of the University of New Mexico for the 1962-63 academic year. As in the past, this report will also be concerned with continuing developments significant to the future of the institution. Recent months have been unusually fruitful of such developments. Overshadowing all other events of the period has been the dramatic confirmation of predicted enrollment trends. The tidal wave of students expected for more than a decade to engulf the nation's institutions of higher education in the mid years of the 1960s is reaching the University of New Mexico slightly ahead of schedule. The student body increased 9.8 per cent with fall, 1963, enrollment and the Board of Educational Finance predicts a gain of 11.7 per cent in 1964. It appears likely that by 1968, two years before previously expected-University enrollment will reach 15,000.
