Abstract

The problem undertaken in this thesis is to make a comprehensive analysis of the practice of using group therapy in the treatment of criminal offenders in the state and federal correctional institutions for adult males in the continental United States. This is a descriptive study directed at determining how many state and federal correctional institutions for adult males are using group therapy; how extensively they are using it; and on what types of offenders they are using it. An attempt is also made to present the psychological principles involved and the historical development of group therapy.
