The Mexican presidential election of 1940 is of transcendental importance in the political annals of modern Mexico...The purpose of this paper is to study the factors which brought about the change in the Mexican power structure from a regime committed to the social, political, and economic betterment of the "popular" classes to a government by and for the benefit of the middle sectors.
