Abstract
The purpose of this study is to discover the religious attitudes of seven of the major American poets in the nineteenth century. The poets to be considered are William Cullen Bryant, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Russell Lowell, Oliver Wendell Holmes, John Greenleaf Whittier, and Walt Whitman.
