18. Coqueiros à beira mar (Coconut Trees Beside the Sea), 1884. João Batista Castagneto, another student of Grimm's, painted this beach view in a light, loose, impressionistic style unusual for this period in Brazil. It has a very modern look when compared to Academic Realist works painted ten years later by Almeida Jr.
